How To Identify A Safety Hazard In Your Workplace
The Legal Stuff:
- Under Section 25 (2)(c) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, it states that "An employer shall ensure that when appointing a supervisor, appoint a competent person" - As per the OHSA definition of a competent person is one who "is familiar with this Act and the Regulations that apply to the work"
- Section 25(2)(a) says that employers are required to "provide instruction and supervision to a worker to protect the health or safety of the worker"
- Section 25 (2)(h) states that an employer "take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers."
- WSIB WorkWell audit section 2.1(c) and 6.1(h) both require the employer to demonstrate that they have provided training to supervisors.
Course Content / Elements Covered:
- Understanding what the OHSA says about hazards in the workplace.
- Understanding the different kinds of safety hazards are in your workplace.
- If it is a public offered course, we go through an extensive pictorial presentation to have participants identify the safety hazard.
- If the training is done at your workplace we will conduct a safety inspection of your workplace and show you the hazards identified and explain where it states that they are safety hazards.
